Brief update

Surgery on Thursday went well...turned out to be endometriosis. Whole ovary and fallopian tube removed, which they were trying to avoid. I'm really not bothered by this - no need for concern/condolences.

Private room in hospital was a lovely treat. Morphine was not my favourite.

Have just been, obviously, in recovery mode. (This was a laparotomy, not a laparascopy). My friend A is arriving on Thursday.

And right now, I'm really tired, so I'm going to have a nap.

Glad things went well with the surgery and that your recovery goes quickly.

Before and after (and, knowing her, probably during) her hysterectomy, my mom would not stop making jokes about keeping her uterus and using it as a purse.

An ovary might make a good... um, change pouch? So practical! I hope you held onto it.

Best of luck with the recovery -- read a trashy novel for me.

Glad to hear it was endometriosis! So much better than some other possibilities. And glad you're recovering.

Hope you recover quickly and feel lots bettter FAST!

I'll join the chorus of gladness that the surgery went well and that it wasn't more serious - sleep tight, m'dear, and feel better soon!

Thank you for posting, have been fretting over your well-being for the last few days! I'm so glad you came through, know what is wrong, and are resting. Too bad about the morphine! I'm not sure it was my friend, but it did make me so drowsy that I didn't notice the pain.

At least it wasn't something worse! Yay! And am I reading it wrong or do you still have a spare ovary and fallopian tube?

Am so glad you posted! I was wondering. I hope you get so much rest, reading trashy novels and eating bonbons, that you positively get bored of luxury and want to get back to work (in a few months)! (Read at least one book for me!)

May your recovery be so smooth that it's decadent!

What a relief! And surely a successful surgery is the beginning of a much better year, right? 2009 is already better than 2008 was!

Happy healing.

Oh, whew! So glad to hear it went well. I've been thinking of you and wondering. All best for a speedy and reasonably relaxing recovery.

Being a doctor, I can, in good conscience, prescribe the following:

1) Take all good wishes above and dose self twice a day with the support therein.
2) Relax and be good to yourself - that's doctor's orders!
3) Spend a good portion of each day reading trashy fun stuff until fully recovered. This is to supplement 1 & 2 above.
Repeat as needed.

I've been thinking of you, and am glad that it was endometriosis (which is nasty but manageable) rather than the less palatable alternatives.

I echo Belle's prescription. There have to be some perks to being a doctor!

Good news! Rest and watch movies. Plenty of time to get stuff done later. For now, the prescription is R and R:)

I just came to your blog from Feral's and devoured all your ovary-related posts because I went through something very similar last year, though I was lucky enough to get through with a laparoscopy. Freaky growth on ovary, lots of worry about ovarian cancer (googling it made me crazy), and then an endo diagnosis in the end. So many women go through this and yet it can be such a terrifying and isolating experience when it happens to you! I'm really happy to hear that your diagnosis was no scarier. Take good care of yourself and enjoy that recovery.

I'm so glad the surgery went well. Here's to a quick recovery. Stop by and pick yourself up an award at my blog when you're feeling up to it.

i'm glad that all went well and seemingly uneventfully, and that you are recovering well.

enjoy your time to heal. i know that sounds silly to say enjoy your recovery, but it's the perfect time to take care of yourself and focus on you and no one else.

here's to a quick recovery.

Thank you to all...You're the greatest.

Don't worry, I'm taking it very easy. Watching DVD's of Grey's Anatomy. (I've never watched it; am halfway through Season 2.) Have more shows lined up: Damages, Summer Heights High. Am reading historical fiction. Classic recovery stuff. My dear friend A is here, as well, from Home City.

Earnest - Yup, I still have one ovary, so that's why I'm chill about this and not freaking out about instant menopause.

Steph - Welcome! And thank you for your story...it's chilling, how common these kinds of stories are. I'll stop by your blog. :)
