Oh dear

Mr. K is sick. He started drinking what seemed to be excessively while I was in town, and had some peeing episodes (unusual). Last week he peed every day while R was at work. She and I fought about it. She was convinced it was emotional (my leaving again); I was urging her to take him in to the vet. Well, the last two days, he's wet his bed twice - both days, could not make it through the night - and done all sorts of other peeing. Even though R has been limiting his water. R has finally seen that she needs to take him to the vet right away, and has an appointment for after work today.

I'm worried, because of course one looks up these things on the Internet these days, and of course at the top of the list of possibilities are kidney failure and diabetes. I'm trying to keep calm about it, but I'm very apprehensive.

Poor Mr. K. I wish I could be there.

Poor Mr. K. Keep us posted on how he's doing.

Hilaire, it could also be Cushing's, which is what Elder Doggie has. It's very manageable. Let us know what our mutual excellent vet says and email me if it turns out that's what it is.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I hope he's okay!

It could also just be a kidney or bladder infection, or a UTI, which my cat has had before. Very treatable with antibiotics and such. Do keep us posted-- we love Mr K!

Thanks, y'all. Maggie, that's what I'm hoping...that it will just be a treatable infection.

And T.E., thanks for the Cushing's heads-up. Maybe this is it indeed! I will email if that's what it turns out to be. Our excellent mutual vet was apparently completely stumped-seeming tonight (though is certain it's a serious underlying physical thing - he said that the fact that Mr. K is peeing large quantities in his bed shows something really amiss. As we know, it's a big deal for dogs to mess their beds.). Anyway, he's going to have the lab results back by Wednesday and I will update you all then!

Thanks for the support.

Crossed appendages here, with lots of good vibes. What did the vet say?

as someone who is unnaturally attached to her family pets and has had a few of them, we've been through bladder infections, UTIs, kidney failure, and diabetes. my sister's boxer has had bladder infections frequently--lots of water drinking is the telltale sign for gracie lou when she gets these. and has the same symptoms--peeing frequently, peeing in the bed, not being able to hold it in.

when the divine miss t was suffering from kidney failure (she recovered--thank god!) she was actually NOT drinking and NOT peeing excessively. you'll know it's a kidney problem if Mr. K is lethargic and spends the day in unusual places-like hiding all day (the divine miss t spent the day under an end table which she normally didn't do)--that's a kidney failure sign for dogs (and cats, too, f.y.i.). there is a major energy and personality shift when the kidneys are in trouble.

diabetes in dogs is totally manageable, too. one of our family dogs had diabetes and she was fine. i mean, it involved insulin shots twice a day, but she got used to it and lived a long, happy life (she was about 15 when we had to put her down), so, the symptoms you describe don't sound as dire as the internet makes them sound.

keep the faith sister. he'll be okay. and sorry for the super long comment. *smile*

um yeah, and too bad i missed the paragraph explaining that the vet was stumped. if it's a live issue, that's totally manageable, too. (the divine miss t had kidney and liver issues at the same time). here's hoping the vet figures it out!

sorry for the long comments after having not carefully read the ones previous.

i meant "liver" not "live."

i'm going to stop now.
